IntroductionNow that we are nearly finished (three years later...) with the bug fix stage, we are concentrating on adding features. Neat new stuff will be rolling out on a semi regular basis. Our player base is starting to expand, though we can always use more. A couple links to vote for Malevolence as the best mud out there are:

If I can get my finances in order, next month we will start a paid advertising campaign, which should bring our user base up to reasonable levels.

Mudlib ChangesMinimum use level for weapons have been implemented across the board. Minimum use levels on weapons as follows:
wc > 21.... lvl must be > wc
wc > 18.... lvl must be > 15
wc > 15.... strenght must be > 10

The friend of newbies gives a consider lens to newbies now

Bury all no longer shows a blank for invis items, plus the messages make a little more sense on a failed bury.

Ranger birds do not relay blank lines overheard to their trainers. The birds also have the ability to show their inventory through "send show inventory" or "send show i"

Directed souls are now more accurate in targetting. It will first look for the person in the room with you, then for a player and finally for a monster. Additionally, ignore is now working with souls (an editting mishap had broken them previously). Also souls will show the real name of the person you are directing them to as long as the person is not a creator. For example, "nod cracker" will now show "You nod your head at Cracker." instead of "You nod your head at Kangaroo."

The forge has been rewritten. It will now make gloves and boots, deliver finished items, and is generally better in all ways than the original. In addition, the are different types of ore available. They are: Metal, Mithril, Meterorite iron, Iron, Adamantite, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Different types of metal will adjust the armour class either up or down... The ores will most likely first appear in Perins dwarvish mines, which should be open in the not to distant future. The forge and repair commands for fighters have been repaired and improved. Remember that you get a substantial bonus for repairing if you do it in a forge area.

Area ChangesSpell point regeneration time is decreased by smoking pot.

The goblin tunnels out the east gate have been expanded and the goblins reproduction rate increased.

Did You KnowThat herbs can be gathered in herb bags and almost every herb has a shortened name? For example to put a sprig of hyssop in the bag, "put hs in hbag" works. Similarly, "put hss in hbag" will put multiple hyssops in.

That the (somewhat buggy) Priest of Oraminam will raise you from the dead if you say raise me in the room with him?

Behind the ScenesSinner is close to completing his first area. It should be open as soon as we clean up the typos. It concerns a small town terrorized by a horrible monster.

UpcomingThe mage guild is being rewritten to have different trainers for each school of magic. This is possibly a prelude to allowing people to multi-class with only one mage school at a lower cost, and allowing pure mages specialize in a given school.

The fighter class and the ranger guild will be getting reviewed and changed soon. Look for new commands for pure fighters and a difference in bows and arrows for rangers.

Vampirism is going to be introduced very soon. Sunlight burns vampires,but they can suck blood and use it to regenerate spell points or hits points, or repair sun damage. In addition, vampires can convert others into vampires, and the new vampires will be part of the clan of the person who converted them. The vampire clans are similar to parties, with their own communication channels.

Creators CornerTanneries are now an inherit. You can add them to your area if you wish. Look at the LPC board at inner for details.

Bags are no longer referred to as armour, and exquisitely made armour weighs one less than normal armour of that type.

Start looking for places to put some ore of different types in your areas.
